From Small-Town Startup to $56M Powerhouse: SuperK Just Landed $12M in Funding — and Binny Bansal Is Betting Big

Move over big-box retailers — India’s small-town supermarket revolution just got supercharged! Bengaluru-based SuperK has stunned the startup world by raising a massive $12 million in Series B funding, doubling its valuation 2.4X to an eye-popping $56 million!

Backed by startup royalty — including Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal’s 021 Capital, FPGA Family Foundation, and Blume Ventures — this tech-powered retail chain is rewriting the rules for grocery shopping in India’s heartland. And the buzz? Even cricketer Shubman Gill has joined the party as an investor.

SuperK’s latest round saw 7,866 shares issued at a jaw-dropping Rs 1.29 lakh apiece, according to regulatory filings. The company’s boardroom is now packed with heavy hitters:

  • 021 Capital now owns 21.84%,
  • Blume Ventures holds 16.04%,
  • And founders Neeraj Mehta and Anil Thontepu retain a solid 27.6%.

Founded in 2019, SuperK is building India’s answer to Costco or D-Mart — but for small towns. Its smart, inventory-light, tech-driven franchise model allows local entrepreneurs to open branded supermarkets that punch way above their weight. Think big retail vibes in small-town avatars.

Revenue is on the rise — jumping 41% to Rs 84.5 crore in FY24, even as losses ticked up to Rs 30.67 crore. But for investors, the upside is obvious: SuperK is cracking the code of Bharat’s retail goldmine, where demand is exploding and modern retail is still catching up.

This isn’t just another startup story — it’s a David-meets-Goliath disruption in India’s $1T+ retail space.

With rivals like ApnaMart (recently raised $25M) and ShopKirana (now part of Udaan) eyeing the same turf, SuperK’s bold move puts them firmly in the lead — for now.
