AI Startup Fundamento Raises $1.9 Million to Transform Lending and Collections for Financial Services

Fundamento Secures $1.9 Million to Expand AI-Powered Financial Solutions

Fundamento, an emerging artificial intelligence startup focused on financial services, has raised $1.9 million (approximately Rs 16 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round. The round was led by IIFL Fintech Fund and saw participation from notable investors including The Players Fund, backed by cricketers KL Rahul and Ben Stokes, as well as Venture Catalysts, Lead Invest, Epic Angels, and a group of strategic angel investors.

The latest funding comes after Fundamento previously raised $1.56 million in its seed round from investors including Caesar Sengupta, former Google executive and co-founder of Arta Finance.

The fresh capital will be used to strengthen Fundamento’s agentic AI technology stack, specifically targeted at solving key problems in the financial services industry. These include collections, borrower profiling, and upselling, all of which are critical areas for banks, NBFCs, and fintech lenders looking to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.

Solving Lending Challenges with Agentic AI

Founded in 2020 by Ankit Durga, Megha Aggarwal, and Vickram Saigal, Fundamento is positioning itself at the intersection of finance and artificial intelligence. The startup is developing an agentic AI platform designed to serve as a smart interaction layer for financial institutions. By embedding intelligence into borrower engagement workflows, Fundamento aims to modernize how banks and lenders interact with customers.

The company’s AI-driven systems enable financial institutions to automate communication, analyze borrower behavior, identify intent, and optimize decision-making throughout the lending lifecycle. This includes everything from loan origination and underwriting to collections and customer retention.

According to the company, its AI agents are built not just to execute tasks but to work strategically alongside human teams, improving the quality of outcomes across lending operations. The platform integrates data, communication, and intelligent decision-making into a single cohesive system, delivering measurable results across customer experience and business performance.

A Growing Opportunity in Fintech and BFSI

India’s financial services landscape has undergone significant transformation in recent years, with the rapid adoption of digital lending, embedded finance, and AI-driven decision systems. However, many legacy institutions still face challenges in customer engagement, especially when it comes to collections and delinquency management.

Fundamento’s platform offers financial institutions the ability to personalize and automate borrower interactions at scale, allowing them to focus on risk management and customer growth. The startup believes that using AI in borrower communications can significantly reduce costs, improve collection rates, and create a more seamless experience for customers.

With more banks, NBFCs, and fintech players looking to digitize their operations, Fundamento sees strong demand for agentic AI across the board. The company already works with enterprise clients in India and plans to deepen its footprint in the BFSI sector over the next year.

Eyeing Global Expansion in the US and APAC

While India remains the company’s core market for now, Fundamento is already looking abroad. As part of its expansion strategy, the startup plans to enter the US and Asia-Pacific regions where similar problems exist in lending and debt collections.

Countries like the United States, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam are witnessing fast growth in digital lending, with banks and fintechs increasingly looking for AI solutions to optimize costs and compliance. Fundamento believes its platform can help institutions in these markets manage borrower lifecycles more effectively, particularly when it comes to early risk detection, personalized repayment nudges, and recovery optimization.

The company sees international expansion not only as a business opportunity but also as a way to build a global AI standard for borrower interaction across emerging and developed markets.

Backing from IIFL Fintech Fund and Others

The pre-Series A round was led by IIFL Fintech Fund, a dedicated fintech-focused investment vehicle under IIFL Group. Over the past four years, the fund has built a diversified portfolio of fintech startups solving problems in areas such as legal tech, analytics, insuretech, and credit infrastructure.

Some of the startups previously backed by IIFL Fintech Fund include Leegality, FinBox, DataSutram, Finarkein Analytics, Finvu, Trendlyne, Insurance Samadhan, Xtracap Finance, Castler, Vitra.AI, EasyRewardz, Multipl, Riskcovry, and TrustCheckr, which was acquired by Truecaller.

The participation of The Players Fund adds a unique layer of visibility to Fundamento. The fund, backed by international sports personalities like KL Rahul and Ben Stokes, has recently started investing in early-stage tech companies. Its involvement in this round reflects growing athlete interest in startups building real-world financial solutions.

The Road Ahead for Fundamento

With a stronger capital base and support from industry veterans, Fundamento is poised to build on its vision of becoming a category-defining AI platform for financial services. The next 12 months will see the company expand both its product capabilities and its customer base, particularly within large enterprise lenders.

Key focus areas include enhancing multilingual AI capabilities, increasing automation in collections workflows, and building predictive models for borrower intent and repayment behavior.

Fundamento’s team believes that financial institutions are at the cusp of a new era — one where AI doesn’t just analyze data but actively participates in borrower engagement. The company is betting that its agentic AI approach will become the new standard in lending and collections, both in India and globally.
