Groww Opens Door To US Stocks For Indian Investors

Groww has started rolling out US stock investing on its app, with the feature expected to become available to all users over the next few weeks.

The offering allows investors to buy and sell US-listed companies through the Groww app and supports fractional investing. The platform provides access to more than 10,000 stocks and ETFs, including Google, Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon and Meta.

Groww secured an IFSCA licence for global investing through GIFT City in July and has partnered with Alpaca Securities, a US brokerage infrastructure provider, for the offering.

The launch comes as Indian investors increasingly look towards global markets for exposure to sectors such as AI, semiconductors, electric vehicles and space. The move also gives Groww another product category as it expands beyond its original mutual-fund investment offering.

Groww has more than 2 crore active users and manages assets worth around Rs 4 lakh crore, according to its quarterly financial statement.

Over the last year, Groww has launched commodities trading, mutual funds and expanded its margin trading facility (MTF). It has also been expanding its wealth segment.

The addition of US stock investing comes as other Indian broking platforms are also moving into international investing through GIFT City. Zerodha, Angel One and Upstox have secured the GIFT City approval to offer US stocks. Upstox has already launched its platform earlier this month.

India’s global investing landscape has so far included platforms such as IndMoney, smallcase and Vested Finance.

The international investing market has gained attention as US stocks and global markets have benefited from interest in AI and technology companies. The report notes that the lack of investment opportunities in rapidly rising sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles and space has encouraged some Indian investors to look towards global markets.

The rise in global investing interest has also been linked to a depreciating rupee, a strong US IPO pipeline and the 40 percent returns delivered by the Nasdaq over the last year.

In July, SpaceX raised $75 billion at a valuation of roughly $1.75 trillion. The report also notes that AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI are likely to list in US markets over the next six months.

Groww’s US investing rollout therefore adds another international investment option for its more than 2 crore active users. The company is gradually making the feature available, with access expected to expand to all users over the coming month.

The platform’s entry into US stock investing comes alongside its broader expansion into commodities, mutual funds, margin trading and wealth management. The new offering gives Groww an additional investment product while allowing its users to access US-listed stocks and ETFs directly through the platform.
