Diamonds Without Mines? Lucira Raises $5.5M to Take on India’s Jewellery Giants

The Sparkle That’s Changing the Rules

What if your diamond didn’t come from a mine, but from a lab? And what if your gold wasn’t freshly dug out of the earth, but recycled?

That’s the future Lucira is betting on. And with $5.5 million freshly raised in seed funding, this Mumbai-born fine jewellery startup is ready to challenge everything India thinks it knows about luxury jewellery.

$5.5 Million to Rewrite the Jewellery Playbook

Blume Ventures led the round, with participation from Spring Marketing Capital, SiriusOne Capital Fund, and a star-studded group of angel investors—the same entrepreneurs who built brands like Dot and Key, Livspace, Snitch, and Bewakoof.com.

For a startup that launched in May 2025, that’s a glittering vote of confidence.

From Candere to Lucira: A Founder Who Knows Jewellery

This isn’t Rupesh Jain’s first dance with diamonds. He previously founded Candere, an online jewellery venture that went on to a successful exit. Now, alongside co-founder Vandana Jain, he’s back with a bigger ambition:

To build India’s first design-first, sustainable luxury jewellery house.

Lucira already boasts a catalogue of nearly 1,000 designs, all certified by IGI, GIA, SGL, and BIS—and each backed by lifetime exchange and buyback guarantees.

Why Lucira Is Different

For decades, jewellery in India has been sold as an investment first, accessory second. Gold locked in vaults. Heavy sets worn only at weddings.

Lucira is rewriting the script. Its USP:

  • Lab-grown diamonds – real, sparkly, but guilt-free.
  • Recycled gold – sustainable, planet-friendly, and luxurious.
  • Design-first approach – jewellery you’ll want to wear, not just hoard.
  • Transparency & trust – certifications and guarantees that rival the biggest names.

In short: luxury without compromise.

The First Store and Beyond

The big news? Lucira is opening its first retail store in Mumbai this month. This is the official start of its offline journey.

But the plan doesn’t stop there. By FY26, Lucira wants four more stores across India. The brand is betting big on physical retail, targeting 80% of its revenue from offline channels, while still keeping its online presence sharp.

And with this $5.5 million infusion, Lucira is also doubling down on:

  • Scaling its design studio
  • Hiring top-tier talent
  • Upgrading its technology backbone

A Market Ready for Change

Why now? Because Indian consumers are changing.

“Jewelry is no longer just an investment. People want design, authenticity, and a brand they can emotionally connect with,” says co-founder Rupesh Jain.

He’s right. The younger generation—millennials and Gen Z—see jewellery the way global consumers see fashion: something you wear every day, not just during festivals or marriages.

Lucira is tapping into this shift.

The Investor’s Bet

For Blume Ventures’ Managing Partner Karthik Reddy, this was an easy call. Rupesh had already proven his chops with Candere. But Lucira? It’s on another level.

“What excites us most is Lucira’s omnichannel vision—seamlessly blending online and offline while redefining luxury. The opportunity is massive,” Reddy said.

Translation: the investors see Lucira as a shot at building India’s Tiffany & Co.—but with sustainability at its heart.

The Bigger Picture

India’s fine jewellery market is worth billions. But it’s dominated by old names and old practices. Legacy brands still sell jewellery as gold weight, not as wearable art.

Lucira is here to disrupt that. With lab-grown diamonds, recycled gold, and cutting-edge design, it’s aiming at a younger, environmentally aware audience that legacy players aren’t speaking to.

The global luxury jewellery industry has already started shifting in this direction. Lucira wants to make sure India doesn’t lag behind.

Final Word: A Diamond Revolution

Lucira’s $5.5 million raise isn’t just about opening stores—it’s about sparking a movement. A movement where jewellery isn’t just an asset but an expression of identity. Where diamonds aren’t mined, but made responsibly. And where luxury doesn’t clash with sustainability.

The brand’s promise is clear: jewellery you’ll want to wear, flaunt, and pass down—not just lock away.

If Lucira plays its cards right, India could soon have its own modern jewellery powerhouse—one that shines brighter because it dares to be different.
