Dream11 Parent Dream Sports Reorganizes Into Multiple Startups Amid RMG Crackdown

Dream Sports, the parent company of fantasy gaming platform Dream11, has undergone a major organizational restructuring after regulatory challenges in India’s real-money gaming sector. The changes have led to the exit of more than 100 executives and a shift in the company’s business strategy.

The company reorganized its operations into multiple independent startups following restrictions on online gaming introduced last year. The move reflects a broader effort by Dream Sports to adapt to evolving regulations and reposition itself in the sports entertainment market.

Restructuring After Real-Money Gaming Ban

The restructuring comes after a ban on certain forms of online gaming introduced in August last year, which affected companies operating in the real-money gaming space.

In response to these regulatory challenges, Dream Sports reorganized its structure and divided its operations into several focused businesses.

The newly structured ecosystem now includes:

Dream11, which has pivoted its model
FanCode, the sports streaming and content platform
DreamSetGo, the sports travel and experiences platform
DreamCricket, a sports-focused initiative
Dream Play
Dream Money
Dream Horizon

Each of these units operates with a more independent structure, allowing the company to diversify beyond fantasy gaming.

Employee Redistribution Across New Units

As part of the restructuring, Dream Sports redistributed employees across its new business units.

According to a company spokesperson, the workforce from Dream11 was reassigned based on employees’ experience and skill sets.

Approximately 700 employees from Dream11 were redistributed across the different startups within the Dream Sports ecosystem.

However, around 15 percent of employees chose to leave the organization during the transition.

Some of these executives moved to larger companies, while others left to start their own ventures.

The company said this attrition level is only slightly higher than its earlier attrition rate of about 10 percent.

Currently, Dream Sports employs around 950 people across its various divisions.

Shift Toward Sports Entertainment

The restructuring also reflects a broader strategic shift in the company’s business model.

Dream Sports is gradually moving away from pure fantasy gaming toward becoming a global sports entertainment platform.

This transformation includes expanding into content, fan engagement, and interactive sports experiences.

Some of the new initiatives include:

Creator-led watch-alongs for sports events
Fan interaction streams
Sports commentary and banter-based content
Free-to-play fantasy formats

These offerings are designed to keep fans engaged even without real-money gaming features.

The company believes the sports entertainment space offers significant opportunities as fans increasingly consume sports content through digital platforms.

Financial Impact of the Transition

The regulatory changes and restructuring have also affected the company’s financial performance.

According to recent filings, Dream11’s revenue from operations declined by about 15 percent year-on-year.

The company reported revenue of Rs 6,759 crore in FY25 compared to Rs 7,934 crore in FY24.

In addition to declining revenue, Dream11 also posted a loss of Rs 479 crore in FY25.

This marks a significant shift from the previous fiscal year when the company reported a profit of Rs 1,295 crore.

Reasons Behind the Loss

The company attributed the losses primarily to two major factors.

First, the firm incurred costs related to a domicile shift, which involves changing the legal jurisdiction where the company is registered.

Second, expenses related to director benefits also contributed to the financial impact.

Such one-time costs are common during large organizational restructurings, especially when companies reorganize their corporate structures.

The Challenge for Real-Money Gaming Companies

Dream Sports’ restructuring highlights the challenges facing companies in the real-money gaming sector in India.

Over the past few years, the industry has faced increasing regulatory scrutiny from both central and state governments.

Authorities have introduced new rules related to taxation, compliance, and consumer protection.

These regulations have forced several gaming companies to rethink their business models and explore alternative revenue streams.

For platforms that previously relied heavily on fantasy gaming or betting-style formats, diversification has become increasingly important.

Expanding the Sports Ecosystem

Despite the challenges, Dream Sports continues to build a broader sports ecosystem around its existing user base.

FanCode has already established itself as a popular sports streaming platform, offering live matches, sports documentaries, and exclusive content.

DreamSetGo focuses on sports tourism and premium fan experiences, allowing users to travel for major sporting events.

By combining gaming, content, travel, and fan engagement, the company hopes to create a more resilient business model that is less dependent on regulatory conditions.

The Road Ahead

Dream Sports’ restructuring represents one of the most significant transformations in India’s gaming and sports tech industry in recent years.

The company is betting that its transition from fantasy gaming to sports entertainment will open up new growth opportunities.

However, the success of this strategy will depend on how effectively the company can attract users to its new offerings and build sustainable revenue streams beyond real-money gaming.

For now, the restructuring signals a new chapter for Dream Sports as it adapts to a rapidly changing regulatory and business environment.
