Shri Balaji Agro Foods Builds a Legacy of Farmer First Food Innovation

Shri Balaji Agro Foods Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1998 with a clear vision of supporting Indian farmers while increasing the long-term value of agricultural produce. From the very beginning, the company focused on working directly with farmers at the village level, creating a strong foundation built on trust, fairness, and sustainability. The goal was simple yet impactful: to ensure that both farmers and the company could grow together.

During the early years, many farmers faced serious challenges. Due to over-farming and limited access to organized markets, they often struggled to receive fair prices for their crops. Recognizing this issue, Shri Balaji Agro Foods developed a solution that focused on collaboration rather than exploitation. The company worked closely with farmers, building long-term relationships based on mutual trust and shared progress.

Shri Balaji Agro Foods began sourcing crops such as tomato, carrot, wheat, and corn directly from local farmers. To further support them, the company set up a processed and canned food manufacturing plant with the guidance of experienced industry professionals. This initiative helped bridge the gap between farmers and consumers by allowing produce to be processed, preserved, and sold at better value. As a result, farmers began receiving fair and consistent prices and became less vulnerable to fluctuating market conditions. Both the farmers and the company benefited from this stable and transparent model.

Tomato puree processing became a major milestone for Shri Balaji Agro Foods. By sourcing tomatoes directly from nearby villages, the company ensured consistent quality while maintaining ethical procurement practices. Strong relationships with farmers enabled a reliable supply of raw materials, allowing the company to produce high-quality tomato puree consistently. This step played a crucial role in establishing the company’s presence in the processed food industry.

Over time, Shri Balaji Agro Foods expanded its product portfolio to meet changing consumer demands. Starting with tomato-based products, the company later introduced baby corn, sweet corn, fruit cocktail, and other processed food items. Throughout its growth, the company remained committed to its core mission of farmer welfare and delivering safe, high-quality food to consumers.

In 2016, Desi Treat was launched as a brand under Shri Balaji Agro Foods Pvt. Ltd. Created to meet the rising demand for plant-based food options inspired by Indian tastes, Desi Treat leveraged the parent company’s strong sourcing network, infrastructure, and values. The brand quickly gained recognition in the plant-based food market for its focus on taste, nutrition, and sustainability.

Desi Treat has become a trusted name among consumers seeking ethical and environmentally responsible food choices. Its soya chaap has emerged as a best-selling product, appreciated for its authentic taste, versatility, and texture that suits a wide range of Indian dishes. In addition to this success, Desi Treat’s Millets Chaap received recognition at the Indus Food Innovation Awards 2025, where it was awarded for Best Shelf Life, highlighting the brand’s innovation and product excellence.

Further strengthening its reputation, Desi Treat Plant Based Mock Chicken won the PETA India Vegan Food Award 2024 for Best Vegan Meat. Together, Shri Balaji Agro Foods and Desi Treat continue to drive farmer empowerment, food innovation, and sustainable growth across India’s evolving food ecosystem.
